A WINNING TEAM

Teviot Dental Imlant team recently received a HIGHLY COMMENDED award at the prestigious UK Smile Awards 2010 ceremony. This recognition is particularly pleasing since it was judged some of the top dentists working in the UK. It also recognises the hard work in setting up the only implant referral practice in the Borders

X RAY-TED

Robyn Kitson RDN recently passed the radiology exam set by the National Examining Board of Dental Nurses. Robyn will now be able to take x rays requested by the dentists during your practice visits. This demonstrates Teviot Dental's continued commitment to the training of the team members, which can only enhance your visits to the practice.

RELAXING AT DENTIST: HOW POSITIVELY 21ST CENTURY!

Despite working hard with his team to make visits to Teviot Dental as relaxing and welcoming as possible, some phobias are just too deeply rooted. Many people really struggle to smile about a dental visit – until now!

Principal Dentist of Teviot Dental, Colin Neville, has recently become a member of the British Society of Medical Dental Hypnosis following his successful completion of further study in relaxation therapy and hypnotherapy. Now there is everything to smile about! If the décor, friendly team and skill of the practitioners was never going to be enough to quell your nerves, how about some general relaxation therapy or dental phobia care and hypnotherapy for pregnant women and smoking cessation.

Now, as well as enjoying your visit to the dentist, Teviot Dental can give you the perfect accessory; a beautiful smile.

TEVIOT DENTAL LEADS THE WAY IN HYGIENE CONTROL

Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) are recognised throughout Scotland as a significant contemporary issue which is why the Scottish Executive launched its Cleanliness Champion programme. The programme aims to equip healthcare staff with core knowledge and skills to ensure that best practice hygiene controls are communicated clearly within induction and training programmes and implemented practically within the clinical working environment.

Although the majority of students completing the course are nurses from acute hospitals, Teviot Dental is proud to announce that two members of its team, Practice Manager Karen Bell and Oral Health Educator Pauline Crozier, have recently been awarded National Education Scotland Cleanliness Champions following their successful completion of a distance learning course.

This achievement will add to the already high standard of instrument decontamination at Teviot Dental and cements its position as a forward-looking private practice dedicated to continual professional excellence and the provision of reputable preventive dental care.

CONTINUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONTRIBUTES TO EXCELLENCE

The General Dental Council (GDC) is the organisation which regulates dental professionals in the UK. From August 2008 the GDC extended the registration of dental professionals beyond dentists, therapists and hygienists to encompass everyone with responsibilities for the provision of clinical treatment. As such dental nurses not only became registered professionals but those fairly new to the profession had to gain a national professional qualification.

Teviot Dental is delighted to announce that team member Brodie Dyce has gained her national SVQ3 dental nurse qualification. This means that all Teviot’s care nurses now possess the national professional qualification and are enthusiastically pursuing the GDC’s targets for continual professional development.

As part of its commitment to the highest standards of clinical care and patient experience, Teviot Dental will be investing in the further development of Brodie and fellow care nurse Robyn Kitson, to pursue accreditation in dental radiography and dental impression taking. In doing so they will improve responsiveness and the service that patients receive and further reinforce Teviot's enviable reputation for diligence and skill.

TEVIOT DENTAL COMES CLEANER

As part of its ongoing investment in customer care, Teviot Dental has recently appointed new team member Brian Hutton as Cleanliness Champion. Brian will be the first team member exclusively responsible for keeping the practice clean throughout the working day. He will be specifically responsible for maintaining the already stringent decontamination and cleaning of practice treatment instruments.

In appointing Brian, Teviot Dental once again differentiates itself by becoming one of the first practices in the Borders to employ a dedicated Cleanliness Champion. By maintaining stringent cleaning policies and protocols the practice once again demonstrates its commitment to the general health and wellbeing of its customers.
